About Sharon Coward Design Sydney
I am an artist working on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. I have a background in fine arts and graphic design the latter of which has kept me grounded, alive and able to pay most of the bills :-).
I decided to start with a new direction for SC Design Sydney in August 2019 as a result of my disappointment surrounding the increasing amount of violent and depressing information we are all exposed to across the internet and media at large. I wanted to create something that would counter this and make people smile and remind them of how to see the funnier sides of life, an escape for a bit of a laugh, where kindness, calm and happier thoughts prevail. Through my art I hope to make a difference even if it is just a little smile on an otherwise serious face.
In 2019, I primed the canvas with an idea, inspired by my dog Walnut, my love of nature and my obsession to create art and started designing amusing, fun, feel-good cards and merchandise - opening a shop on Zazzle.com.au early 2020. I have been on a path of learning since.

AS AN ARTIST: I have completed numerous commissioned works on large canvases for various clients.
My early work was largely portraiture and landscapes which were done in what might be described as an impressionistic painterly style that showed my love of colour, mixing and applying glorious paint. Later I moved-on to explore abstracts; discovered how challenging these were to accomplish successfully and kept at this challenge for quite a long while. My more recent work is somewhat of a merge of both impressionism and abstract to a more decorative, designed and narrative approach. I use curves and twirls with simplified areas filled with flat colour to capture a thought or tell a story. The lines have a connection or relationship with each other and work together from thick to thin and end with a balanced, polished twirl.
AS A GRAPHIC DESIGNER: My training and experience in graphic design for many years has greatly influenced my artwork as I like to merge all the tools available to help me create. I might grab a pencil to jot down a sketch, the next step I might take a photo of my sketch and place it into Adobe Fresco...I often do numerous variations in Fresco and from there I might print it, animate it or project it onto a large canvas to sketch out for painting in acrylics.
Whether you like to call it fine art, commercial art or just plain graphics I like to call it fun and creating is what I like to do.
I would really appreciate your feedback – good and bad as I like to know how the work is being received by different people. As we all have had such different individual experiences in life; what one person perceives may be completely different to another and I find this fascinating to learn about.
